Welcome

Originally, Ambit Online was the online home of my consulting business, but the site was a perpetual one page "under construction" wonder. When the business incorporated as Abivia, this domain became my personal site. I hope you find it enjoyable.

Bell's Sympatico DSL Uptime

Uptime for My Crappy Bell Sympatico DSL: Last 30 days

Just how crappy is my Sympatico DSL service from Bell Canada? Well it used to be pretty good, but lately it's been shutting down overnight. Let the statistics speak for themselves.

This site is generated by the Joomla content management system. It's running a commercial template that I purchased for a project that never quite took off. I figured I liked the template enough that I'd find someplace to use it sooner or later, and here it is.

Joomla is a fantastic system for building web sites of any kind. It's one of the three most popular content management systems on the web (the other two being Drupal and Wordpress). You'll see a lot of comparisons of the three on the web, with various people claiming one of better than the others and that it will eventually take over. Ignore these. The best CMS is the one that fits the needs of the site and the people developing it.

I'm part of the Joomla development team, which makes it the obvious best choice for me, and by extension for most (but not all) of my clients.

Ideas

Ideas are cheap. It's implementing ideas that's difficult. I have more ideas than I could ever implement, so I'm going to start recording them here in hopes that someone thinks the idea is good enough to implement.

Photography

I used to be a pretty decent photographer. Now I mostly take snapshots. I'm going to inflict some of them upon you.

Art & Architecture

I've dabbled in many forms of art. Ray-traced digital art, writing, drawing, architecture, even paint on canvas. Some of it can be good. Most of it reflects the small amount of practice I have put into it. I'm now sharing most of it. The grossly incomplete and embarrassing bits are the only significant omissions.
